Dallas SWAT Incident Ends With 1 Injured, 1 In Custody

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A suspect is in custody and a shooting victim was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a SWAT incident at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham on Alpha Road north of I-635 Monday afternoon.

Police say 37-year-old Jeremy Chaney of Van Alstyne has been taken into custody in the shooting.

Some guests at the hotel were evacuated while others hid in their rooms.

At least one guest said the incident started with " a loud pop, pop."

Dallas police said they got an 'active shooter' call around 1:55 p.m on Monday afternoon.

Police said Chaney allegedly entered a hotel room and shot a man.

A witness was also inside the room and was able to escape.

"My heart stopped for a moment," said hotel guess Tiffany Juong. "I was laying in bed and the loud boom was right above me and I thought the ceiling was gonna come down right above me. I was like 'oh my God'."

Dallas SWAT handled the incident as a hostage rescue.

Chaney surrendered when SWAT officers entered the room and was arrested.

The victim was shot in the leg.

Police said they believe the shooting was a case of domestic violence.

Chaney is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

His bond has been set at $25,000 dollars.
