Dallas Still In Running To Host RNC 2016 Convention
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The list has been narrowed down to four cities in contention to host the 2016 RNC Convention, and Dallas is still on it.
Dallas, Denver, Kansas City and Cleveland are among the cities selected for visits from the RNC's site selection delegation. Both Cincinnati and Las Vegas withdrew their bids to host the convention based on arena requirements set by the RNC.
Each remaining city will now host the site selection committee before the full delegation votes to select a finalist. Dates and times have not yet been set for any of the site visits.it.
Following today's meeting of the Site Selection Committee, Chairwoman Enid Mickelsen issued the following statement:
"Today the committee determined that Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, and Kansas City will receive official visits from the full RNC site selection delegation. All cities excelled in nearly every aspect of their bids and presentation this year, but these four cities stood out from the field from the start of this process and deserve a deeper look by the full committee.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott released the following statement after the announcement was made:
"I'm thrilled that the Republican National Committee has selected the great city of Dallas as a finalist to host the 2016 Republican National Convention. Texas is thriving under conservative leadership and this would be a great opportunity to showcase our booming economy, vibrant culture and spirit of liberty to Republicans from all over the country."
