Dallas Shooting 911 Call Released

DALLAS - (CBS 11 NEWS) Dallas Police revealed more about the initial 911 call received before Tuesday's fatal shooting. The caller indicated there was a kidnapping going on, but police do not believe that to be true.

The call to 911 came in just before 5 P.M. Tuesday.

A transcript shows the caller claimed to have seen five or six men with guns walk into a home with another man who had his hands up.

"They were yelling at him like they were going to kill him," the caller reportedly said. Within minutes, three officers arrived at 5316 Bourquin where they reportedly spotted four men jump out a back window. At least one of them had allegedly grabbed a gun.

Police say Officer Brian Rowden chased a suspect, jumping three fences, before winding up in a horse corral where police claim the two fought violently.

The daughter of an 82-year-old witness said by the time she arrived, suspect James Harper was already dead.

Harper was no stranger to trouble with a lengthy history of drug charges.

In August of 2005, he also pleaded guilty to assaulting a different Dallas police officer by striking him with his hand.

A review of Dallas police officer Brian Rowden's internal file, however, shows mostly commendations for a job well done in his eight years on force.

Despite six investigations, only two accusations proved true - that he once missed a court date and once failed to immediately clear a call.

Officer Rowden is now on administrative leave while police investigate this shooting.

They have not yet identified the initial 911 caller. Police think that call was a prank.
