Dallas Sees Steady Job Growth Within Health Sector
If you were to go to college today with the intention of becoming a healthcare professional, the one thing that you can be sure of is that there will never be a shortage of job opportunities. This is completely unlike what happened with the teaching industry here in Dallas back in the 2008/2009 school year. The Dallas Independent School District unexpectedly laid off hundreds of teachers due to budget cuts. If you had gone to school with the dream of becoming a teacher, your odds were not looking very good by the time you graduated.
Although the economy in the United States has taken a hit in recent years, the Dallas area has seen an increasingly high demand for healthcare workers. According to the Employment Situation Summary put out by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs continued to become available in the healthcare industry in March this year, while retail continued to go down.
According to the Dallas Regional Chamber, if we were to take healthcare jobs out of Dallas, our economy would essentially collapse. You might notice that if you go to job sites like Monster.com, one of the most popular search engines for employment opportunities these days, there are over 1,000 available jobs when you simply type in "healthcare" and "Dallas, Texas." In contrast, retail doesn't show nearly as many openings. With people living longer and medications for various ailments becoming more necessary, the need for health workers is simply a continuous process. And although you may hear people in North Texas griping about unemployment and the lack of opportunity, Dallas simply has more to offer.
So, don't lose hope. Jobs in healthcare are abundant here in Dallas. There are many schools in our fair city offering incredible curriculum, preparing our up-and-coming healers to handle this impending demand. Schools like Baylor Medical Center and UT South Western Medical Center are prepared to tackle the situation. Although the economy is sluggish right now, Dallas is still flourishing for healthcare professionals.
