UNITED STATES (CBSDFW.COM) - Texas U.S. Rep. Jeb Hensarling traveled to New York City on Thursday to meet with President-elect Donald Trump.
CBS 11 spoke with House Financial Services Committee Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R., Texas) when he arrived at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport. He said that the meeting went well and that Trump was very kind and gracious.
"He makes you feel very comfortable but he does ask a lot of questions," said Hensarling.
He said that he and Trump discussed a variety of topics included taxes, trade and the economy. Hensarling said that Trump Tower was incredibly busy.
Hensarling is on the short list for Treasury Secretary along with Steven Mnuchin, an American banker, film producer and political fundraiser who was Trump's campaign finance chairman.
Hensarling, who chairs the House Financial Services Committee, side-stepped the question about possibly changing roles and if the 40 minute meeting with Trump, was in fact, a job interview.
"I didn't invite myself so we will leave it at that," said Hensarling, who mentioned he's willing to help the President-elect in any capacity that he can,
"I just said, 'Mr. President, I am on your team so just tell me what position you want me to play.' "
Hensarling is the second high-profile Texan to meet with Trump this week. Texas U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz also went to New York City to meet with Trump.
