Dallas Renters Displaced in Apartment Fire

Residents in a Dallas apartment complex were shocked awake by shouting and the noise of fire trucks arriving to attack a two-alarm fire just after 3:30 a.m.  The Red Cross is helping those who've been burned out of their units at a small, two-story apartment building east of Central Expressway, near Greenville and Walnut Hill, in northeast Dallas. Several units have smoke and water damage but the apartment where the fire apparently started is the worst off. The couple who live there say they've been having trouble with the air-conditioning to the point that a technician has been out to look at it in the past few days. Power has been shut off to the building. Media reports suggest that the wiring on some of the units had been rigged to provide electricity without paying for it.
