Dallas Quintuplets First In The U.S. This Year
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Carrie Jones says her emotions are still on a roller coaster. The Duncanville native remains in the hospital, days after giving birth. "People kept saying, God did this", she said. Jones, a ministry missionary, is the mother of quintuplets. On August 9th, she delivered five newborns, three boys and two girls.
The delivery is the first quintuplet birth in the U.S. this year, according to UT Southwestern Medical Center. Inside the center's St. Paul University Hospital, Jones was joined by a collection of doctors, nurses and other medical specialists who helped deliver the babies.
"We needed a team of four doctors and two nurses per baby", Dr. Patricia Santiago-Munoz explained, during a special media conference to introduce the Jones family.
Dr. Munoz is the UT Southwestern Medical Center obstetrician who led the delivery of the babies. Will, David, Marcie, Seth and Grace were born at 27 weeks. They range in weight from one pound and two pounds, 11 ounces. The babies are in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit. All are listed in either good or stable condition. But it will be weeks before any would be released from the hospital.
Husband Gavin Jones and wife Carrie raised their first son Isaac in Papua, New Guinea. The couple wanted to have more children. Mother Carrie took fertility drugs, but never expected multiple births. "We looked at the sonogram (in March) and saw four. Then another one", she said.
"It's a gift from God", big brother Isaac said, while describing the quintuplet addition to the family. The Jones clan will live in Duncanville for the time being. They plan to return to New Guinea to continue their missionary work.
