Updated: Friday at 6:00 pm - Fireworks will start at 8 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. due to weather concerns.

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - OU-Texas weekend is here in Dallas, and now some are hoping a brand new fireworks spectacle will become as much a tradition as the game itself.

The show will feature a 7 ½ minute fireworks display synchronized to music. It will be shot off of the top of Reunion Tower in downtown Dallas.

Event organizers say they got the idea to do this last year, when they had a similar show after the re-opening of the GeO Deck at the tower.

Jeanne Phillips, a senior vice president for Hunt Consolidated, said her company, which owns and operates Reunion, is offering the show as a gift to the city of Dallas and its visitors this weekend.

She said, "We're into new things, big things, and we think this could be a really great thing for the city."

Melrose Pyrotechnics is the company tasked with producing the show. Their crews worked all week to install more than 50 launch points around the sphere that is more than 560 feet above ground level.

Event Producer, Denis O'Regan said, "We're installing the pyrotechnics so that we are able to get great angles that chase and create waves around the sphere."

The show begins at 9 p.m. Friday and the best sightseeing points are said to be from the levees and areas near Trinity Groves, and on the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge.
