DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Dallas are investigating a shooting involving a police officer. The incident took place at around 4:45 a.m. early Wednesday morning when officers were responding to a burglary call near the intersection of Northwest Highway and Webb Chapel Extension.
According to police, a Latin woman called stating that she had broken into the Golden Chick restaurant at that location. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the woman inside with a knife. "Officers gave her loud verbal commands to drop the knife. The suspect refused to do so," said Deputy Chief Thomas Castro with the Dallas Police Department.
Officers then tased the woman as she exited the restaurant, but the attempt was ineffective. "The suspect then raised the knife, walking toward the officers in a threatening manner," Castro continued. At this point, one police officer fired his weapon and hit the suspect.
The woman was transported to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, but her current condition is unknown. Her name has also not yet been released. None of the police officers were injured during this incident.
