Dallas Police Shoot & Kill Robbery Suspect
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An armed robbery suspect is dead after police shot him several times in an apartment complex in Pleasant Grove.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner this morning identified the suspect as William Leodis Banks III of Lewisville.
According to police, the shooting started with a robbery in the 1400 block of south Buckner where a man and woman were robbed at gunpoint. Officers say the gunman then jumped in his vehicle and fled the scene.
Police spotted the vehicle and started chasing it. The pursuit went into parts of Mesquite, then back into southeast Dallas.
The car chase ended at the St. Augustine Apartments at St. Augustine and Lake June Road.
At that point, the suspect got out of his vehicle and ran through the complex, with police close behind on foot.
Banks then ran behind the laundry room where police say he turned around and pointed his gun at officers.
Dallas police spokesman Kevin Janse says the officers fired several shots, striking the suspect multiple times.
Banks was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
