DPD Arrests Man Suspected Of Kidnapping & Killing Sons

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas police have located and captured a North Texas father who is believed to have kidnapped and drowned his two children.
Investigators had been searching for Naim Rasool Muhammad and his two boys, ages 3 and 5. The 32-year-old man is believed to have abducted the children and their mother, 22-year-old Kametra Sampson, from near Dolphin Road and Haskell Avenue just after 7 a.m.
According to Dallas police, Muhammad made some type of threats and was able to forcibly abduct Sampson and the children as they all walked to a school. During a 4 p.m. news conference Dallas Police Department Deputy Chief Craig Miller said the mother was able to escape and flag down a Dallas County Constable.
At some point after Sampson escaped, Muhammad attempted to take his third child, a 1-year-old, from Sampson's grandmother's house in the 3500 block of Terrell Street.
A neighbor says she saw and heard Muhammad smash the back window. "I knew there were people inside the house and I wanted to make sure everyone was going to be okay," she said. "So I came back here to see that the window was broken, so I called my mom."
Police say Sampson's mother stopped Muhammad from taking the boy. "It's very fortunate that he didn't get the youngest child," said Miller.
Monday's incident was part of a "continuing family violence situation." Muhammad has a documented police record that includes arrests on domestic violence charges.
Relatives confirmed that Monday wasn't the first time Muhammad had threatened Sampson and their children. "Yeah, he did yell a lot. He used the kids a lot as a target. He took the things that were closest to her and that was her boys," said the boys' aunt Gabrielle Armstead.
After the Dallas County Constables Office learned more about the alleged kidnappings they made Dallas police aware of the situation.

Officials at DPD headquarters prepared to issue an Amber Alert and had scheduled a 1 p.m. news conference when events began to unfold, seemingly simultaneously, across the city.
Dallas police confirm there was a lot of phone contact between the family of both the suspect and kidnapped individuals. Officers were led to several locations across the city trying to located Muhammad and the children. Miller said, "everyone had the interest of the children at heart."
Police later found the 2004 Toyota Matrix with Texas license plate CJ6H662, which Muhammad was last seen driving.
Before Muhammad was captured, Dallas Fire Rescue received a call about an unconscious person at 12:40 p.m. The caller, believed to have been the mother of the suspect and grandmother of the children, told rescuers that her son had drowned her grandchildren.
Paramedics arrived, performed CPR and took the kids to Children's Medical Center. Both children were pronounced dead at the hospital and police later confirmed the boys were drowned in a creek.
After abandoning his vehicle but being spotted by officers Dallas police chased Muhammad on foot in the area near Singing Hills Drive and East Ledbetter.
Muhammad was taken into custody near the 6500 block of Lazy River. A witness at that scene, who did not want to be identified, told NewsRadio 1080 KRLD what he saw. "When I got here I seen a guy running with a red and black shirt on. Then, all of a sudden, cops started coming from everywhere," he recalled. "They taped off the little area here, the ambulance came, and they took little kids out of that silver car and that was it."
Muhammad was taken to Dallas police headquarters. The bodies of the two children were transported to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.
Late Monday afternoon a neighbor told CBS 11 News that just a few weeks ago Kametra Sampson and her children had moved in with her grandmother. The neighbor claims that on Saturday Sampson told Muhammad not to come around anymore, but he showed up at the house Monday morning.
According to the Dallas Independent School District, the 5-year-old boy, who was dressed in a white polo shirt, khaki pants and gray colored Michael Jordan tennis shoes, was headed for his first day of school at Frazier Elementary. He was listed as a "no show" after never making it to campus. Monday would have been his first day of kindergarten.
Muhammad has be charged with two counts of Capital Murder, and is currently being held in the Lew Sterrett Justice Center on a $2 Million bond.
