Dallas Police Officer Arrested On Charges of Drunk Driving
MESQUITE (CBSDFW.COM/AP) – A Dallas police officer was arrested in Mesquite on multiple charges Sunday.
According to Gerardo Monreal from the Dallas Police Department Officer Rafeal Mendoza was arrested by Mesquite police on charges of driving while intoxicated, aggravated assault and possession of marijuana. A 911 caller reported that their vehicle was hit with a bullet.
Mendoza is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division and has been working with DPD since 2008.
It's unclear when Mendoza returned to work after being placed on leave last summer. He'd been charged with domestic assault and unlawful restraint. A woman said after they'd been arguing, he knocked her on the ground, handcuffed her and threatened to send her to prison.
In addition to facing criminal charges Mendoza will be placed on leave while an administrative investigation looks into the incident.
