Dallas Police Investigating Two Highway Shootings

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas police are investigating whether two highway shootings, which occurred on the same stretch of interstate in the past week, are related.

Both shootings happened along Interstate 20. In the first, a woman was shot in the leg while driving near the Spur 408 interchange. She was hospitalized with her injuries.

A Dallas couple literally dodged a bullet while driving near I-20 and US Highway 175.

In both cases, the victims say at first, they didn't realize someone was shooting at them.

Gail Pinke says the bullet fired at her car came within inches of her passenger side door.

"By the grace of God, this wasn't my bullet," she said as she fingered the bullet-sized dent on her car frame.

The shooting happened around midnight Monday when she and her husband drove along I-20. She said the suspects in an orange Pontiac Vibe drove up right behind them and became aggressive. After pulling over on the highway, she switched seats with her husband Gerald, so he could take the wheel. He said the suspects waited for him to catch up.

"Once we picked up highway speed, I heard what sounded like a gunshot, but I wasn't sure that it was a gunshot. Come to find out, it was a gunshot," he said. Gerald said he never saw a gun.

Dallas police are investigating whether the suspects who shot at the Pinkes are connected to a road rage shooting three days earlier. It also happened overnight -- around 3:30am -- and also happened along I-20. In that case, the suspects shot at the victims' car, hitting a 19-year- old woman in the leg.

Police say they are reviewing all road rage shootings along Dallas highways since January to see if others are connected.
