DPD Police Chase With Assault Suspect Ends Downtown

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A police chase that started in Dallas, at Hatcher and 2nd Street, weaved to Seagoville, Garland, Mesquite and back into downtown Dallas ended after nearly an hour.
Dallas police began pursuing the burgundy colored Ford Expedition SUV just before Noon.
Initially the case was thought to have been a kidnapping involving the male driver and and a female passenger -- thought to be the mother of his child. That information was incorrect.
The driver of the SUV was Tenorris Duncan, a 25-year-old wanted for Aggravated Assault. The charges stemmed from a confrontation between Duncan and his ex-girlfriend, Jessica Thompson, on Wednesday. During that incident, Duncan is accused of shooting at Thompson several times as she got out of her car in the 9700 block of Military Parkway. Thompson filed charges and an arrest warrant was issued for Duncan.
Undercover officers tracked down Duncan late Thursday morning and attempted to arrest him, but he refused to stop. A female passenger, Courtney Richardson, was in the vehicle with Duncan as he evaded police.
CBS 11 News reporter J.D. Miles learned the driver/suspect had a cell phone and was in contact with Mesquite police while driving. The man reportedly told officers he wanted to pull over but was afraid to stop.
At about 1:00 p.m. Duncan pulled over near the intersection of Griffin Street and Pacific Avenue, got out of the SUV with his hands up, and laid down on the ground. Officers immediately took him into custody and converged on the vehicle, removing passenger Richardson from the passenger side of the vehicle.
At the time of the chase Duncan was believed to have had a gun -- that information was confirmed when the SUV was finally searched. Officials say there were "weapons" inside the vehicle but weren't specific as to how many or what type.
"Luckily this individual didn't decide to use those weapons inside the car," said Dallas police Senior Corporal Kevin Janse.
Of the police chase Janse said, "It looked like a textbook pursuit."
Police took Duncan to the Dallas County Jail and have charged him with aggravated assault. Additional charges are expected to be filed soon.
As of 3:00 p.m., Duncan's passenger, Courtney Richardson, remained at Dallas police headquarters where she was being questioned about her involvement in the incident.
