DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Police Department on Wednesday afternoon finally replaced the glass windows at the Jack Evans Police Headquarters building on Lamar Street in downtown, after an attack there more than two months ago.

It was on June 13 that James Boulware fired at the building, taking aim at officers and shooting more than 40 bullets into the police headquarters. Authorities also found an explosive device near the building. Boulware was killed by a police sniper after a standoff. No officers were injured.

The incident left broken and damaged glass at the front of the police building. Those windows had been boarded up since the night of the shooting. Officials anticipated that the glass would be replaced sometime on Monday, however, the materials did not arrive on time.

Crews were then working on the glass windows on Wednesday.

But more than just new windows are planned for the Dallas Police Department headquarters. Ever since the shooting, officers have stressed the need for better security at the building. Soon after, the city began laying out plans for a beefed up and highly secure upgrade.

The plans include bulletproof glass, more fencing and updated security systems. The changes are estimated to cost $7 million for the main headquarters and other police substations. The city is setting aside money for the upgrades, and it will be part of the proposed budget for next year.

The Dallas Police Association is also lobbying for better protection to officers in the field, and armored vehicles.
