DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Police in Dallas have concerns about their safety, both on and off duty, after Harris County deputy Darren Goforth was shot to death in cold blood last Friday.
Ron Pinkston, president of Dallas Police Association, is directing officers to take steps to try and be as safe as possible.
"We're telling them if they're working to go as two-man teams, to wear their vests, and to be careful off duty too. Even if they're wearing a Tshirt that says 'law enforcement' or something, officers could be targeted," Pinkston says.
Pinkston says the negative atmosphere against law enforcement is putting Dallas police morale at an all time low.
Fewer people are applying as officers and some leave for other departments.
Pinkston says it's sad when police are blamed for the acts criminals commit, and they need the public's help in changing that.
"It's time for the silent majority to stand up and speak up. We need to have leaders supporting our police. We have to change the narrative in this country."
