Dallas PD "Attentive" Sunday During HQ Shootout Investigation

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) — Dallas police say fourteen officers engaged with the gunman during different points of the standoff yesterday; department policy has placed all these officers on administrative leave, effective Sunday. This is routine policy for any officer who fires a weapon.
Meanwhile, workers continue their clean-up effort at the Dallas Police Department headquarters after suspect James Boulware fired dozens of semi-automatic rounds into the building. The lobby remains closed. Part of downtown's Lamar Street was shut down well into Saturday while police and ATF agents investigated the crime scene.
Police confirm the gunman worked alone; investigators have not found anyone involved in the planning or execution of Saturday's incident.

In Hutchins, officers stood on-scene overnight where alleged gunman James Boulware, 35, was shot by a .50 caliber police sniper rifle through the window of his armored vehicle. His van exploded around noon Saturday after authorities detonated two C-4 pipe bombs inside.
The charred remains of the gunman's eBay purchase was towed Sunday afternoon; nearly thirty-six hours after the standoff first began.
In Carrollton, CBS was on the scene as federal agents raided the home of Boulware's father on Saturday. CBS 11's J.D. Miles was the first to speak to the elder Boulware who tried, through tears, to explain his son's actions. WATCH >
Meanwhile, the Dallas Police Association is urging officers to be extremely attentive both on and off-duty. The union is asking better security measures; Frederick Frazier, who represents the union, says armored vehicles are now necessary for officers.
Dallas Police Chief David Brown said that several officers were "blessed" after having come within mere inches of being shot during the multi-hour standoff.
