DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Hailed as quick-thinking heroes, four Dallas police officers will speak out for the first time on Tuesday since saving an injured child's life. It happened Saturday afternoon when, according to witnesses, a couple got into an argument.

The first 911 call was received at 3:37 p.m. on Saturday, about a shooting in the Oak Cliff area. After the argument, three men reportedly fired six or seven shots at a family of four people, and a 4-year-old girl got caught in the middle of the gunfire. The child was struck by one bullet in the leg.

No arrests have been made in the case.

The child's mother drove her downtown and flagged down a police officer near the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. Three other officers then arrived, and they used a tourniquet to stop the girl's bleeding.

Paramedics with Dallas Fire-Rescue credited those four police officers, saying that their work prevented the girl from bleeding out before they arrived at the scene.

One of the police officers even stayed with the girl on the drive to the hospital, lifting her spirits along the way. The officers are set to speak with the media about their life-saving efforts at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
