Dallas North Tollway Re-Opens Early After Construction
PLANO (CBSDFW.COM) - A parts of the Dallas North Tollway was expected to be closed on Monday morning due to construction, but crews finished the work ahead of schedule. Rather than a complete closure, all three lanes of traffic along a stretch of the tollway in Plano are open again for drivers.
And as a result of the weekend construction project, morning commuters might find themselves a little bit confused. Those accustomed to seeing toll booths along this part of the Dallas North Tollway – no more! A scheduled demolition of the booths has been completed and workers are now cleaning up the remaining debris.
The construction project is part of the North Texas Transportation Authority's conversion to an all cashless system on area tollways. This should help ease congestion at toll plazas, as roughly 6,000 drivers use this stretch of the Dallas North Tollway every hour.
The NTTA started the project, at the Parker Road exit, at 6:00 a.m. Sunday morning. Based on the NTTA's initial estimate, all three lanes of the Dallas North Tollway were set to be closed for about a mile and a half on Monday morning. But quick work crews managed to have the tollway open in time for the Monday rush hour.
"We were really lucky to have weather on our side," said J.D. Stokes with the NTTA. "Some good planning helped us. We had crews that came out and really hit it hard to get down the plaza a little bit faster time than we anticipated."
Next weekend, NTTA crews will be performing the same demoliton project to toll booths located near the Keller Springs Road exit.
