Dallas Native, Golf Pro Given "Key To The City"
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings has awarded his first-ever "key to the city" to 20-year-old golfer Jordan Spieth.
Spieth accepted the honor at Wednesday morning's council meeting.
"I'm very proud, obviously, to be a Texan…more specifically to represent the City of Dallas," Spieth said during the council meeting. "It's home for me, always has been and always will be." Spieth was born and raised in Dallas.
Spieth and Tiger Woods are the only two amateur golfers to win the U.S. amateur tournament twice. Spieth then went on to win the July's John Deere classic, the first teenager in 82 years to win a PGA tournament.
In September, Fred Couples used one of his captain's picks to add Speith to the 12-man American 2103 President's Cup team. He was also named "Rookie of the Year" after completing his first year on the professional golfers tour.
