Dallas Man Arrested For Attempted Robbery

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Dallas on Thursday arrested a man who allegedly tried to rob an ice cream and candy cart vendor at an apartment complex. The vendor was walking through the complex to sell his merchandise to apartment residents.

According to police, the suspect approached the vendor and said that he wanted to buy some candy. But when the vendor started to show his candy to the suspect, he was threatened with a handgun. The suspect allegedly told the vendor, "Give me all your money!"

But the vendor fought back, using pepper spray on the suspect and causing him to run away into a nearby apartment unit. Police said that the suspect may have been intoxicated at the time of the attempted robbery.

Police officers visited the apartment unit and found the suspect -- identified as 21-year-old Joshua Hyden -- there on the patio. He was then arrested without incident. Authorities said that he smelled like pepper spray.

Hyden's wife told police that the suspect ran into the apartment unit and immediately showered to wash off the pepper spray. She also said that Hyden does own a handgun like the one used in the attempted robbery, however, she had not seen it on him at the time. Police looked around the apartment unit, but were unable to find the weapon.
