Dallas Looks To Revitalize Farmers Market
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A once vibrant section of Dallas could soon be getting a huge facelift. The Dallas Farmers Market was simply a place for farmers to sell goods. But over time, the number of food stands has dwindled. Now, there is talk of turning this iconic Dallas location into a true visitor's destination.
City officials have been looking for ways to privatize the farmers market. The vision has long been to turn the once popular locale into a world-class food and retail destination. Now, it looks like Dallas has found an investor. Spectrum Properties has agreed to spearhead the group purchasing most of the property.
The proposal calls for new apartments, restaurants, and retail stores, along with a band shell, beer garden and other amenities.
The city has been pouring several thousands of dollars into the operation annually. The Dallas City Council will be briefed on the plan Wednesday, and the hope is that the proposal will be an economic boost -- not just to the farmers market, but to the entire city.
