Dallas Library Needs Donations To Preserve Officer Memorial

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The Dallas Public Library is in need of $75,000 to store a citizen-created memorial to the five slain officers from the downtown Dallas ambush on July, 7.
Close to four months since the officer's deaths, a campaign to keep and preserve the heartfelt responses to the killings is alive in the basement of the downtown library. But efforts to remember acts of kindness after an act of evil are on hold until adequate archival storage boxes are donated, or the funds to buy them are.
"We've hit a snag, we just don't have enough of these materials to properly store these items, and we need to store them properly to preserve them," said Jo Giudice, Director of Libraries, City of Dallas.
From flags to stuffed animals, notes and letters by the thousands -- the symbols of a world response to the Dallas Police Department's loss are worthy of preservation, and for that, friends of the library are asking for help.
"It was tragic, but I like how citizens responded to it, the way it was heartfelt and loving. That's the message we want to preserve," said Giudice.
