Dallas Leaders To Vote On New Golf Course
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Thursday marks the start of a major golf tournament in North Texas. But first, on Wednesday, the City of Dallas will try to get into the game as well. Dallas leaders are set to vote on plans to build a world-class golf course in the city.
The vote comes as Irving is about to kick off the 2013 HP Byron Nelson Championship at the Four Seasons in Las Colinas.
The Dallas golf course would be called Trinity Forest, and it would be built on an old landfill near Loop 12, just east of Interstate-45. "That's why the course that we are going to be building in southern Dallas is so unique," said Mayor Mike Rawlings, "because no one thought we could take an urban forest and turn it into a course like this."
If the golf course is approved, it would carry a 40-year lease.
Irving has the HP Byron Nelson Championship through 2018. But tournament officials have agreed to move the PGA event to the new Dallas course for at least 10 years starting in 2019, if the course is approved by the city council and all necessary agreements are signed.
