Dallas' Kimball High School Wins 4A Championship
AUSTIN (CBSDFW) - Torrey Henry capped a frenzied last minute rally with back-to- back three-point shots in the final 29 seconds of the game as the Dallas Kimball Knights secured back-to-back Class 4A state basketball championships with a 78-75 win over Houston Yates in Austin on Saturday afternoon.
Kimball trailed the high scoring Lions, 75-70, in the final minute when Henry nailed a 3-pointer with 29 seconds left to cut the lead to two points. 17 seconds later, Henry made another long range bomb that put the Knights ahead to stay.
Senior Shannon Lilly Jr. made five 3-pointers as part of a 27-point afternoon while Keith Frazier, a transfer from Irving High School who is one of the top junior recruits in the nation, contributed 17 points and 14 rebounds.
Kimball Head Coach Royce Johnson has now duplicated the feat of his father, Goree Johnson, who also coached Kimball to back-to-back state titles in 1996-97.
Two DFW schools, Kimball and Argyle, have won state championships so far today in Austin. Flower Mound Marcus shoots for its second straight state title tonight in the Class 5A final.
