Dallas ISD Teacher Arrested For Improper Relationship With Student

GARLAND (CBSDFW.COM) - Garland police arrested a Dallas ISD teacher Thursday for an improper relationship with a student.

Police arrested 49-year-old Robert Lee Edgin of Dallas who is a teacher at W.T. White High School.

According to police, the victim is a 17-year-old Garland ISD student.

Investigators say Edgin met the teenager online and is cooperating in the investigation.

"Right now we have students who they're talking to somebody their age, or they think, 'Oh, it's okay.' But it's our job to educate them about the dangers that are out there," said Alberto Irizarry with the Garland Police Department.

District officials confirmed that the theater teacher has been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation looks to determine, among other things, whether he crossed a line with any students at W.T. White High School.

Texas law forbids relationships between educators and students regardless of where the student is enrolled.

Edgin is currently at the Garland Detention Center on a $10,000 bond.

Police say additional charges may be filed based on his admissions and speaking with detectives. They believe there may be other victims.

Police are asking anyone with information involving Edgin to call Garland police.
