Dallas High School Students Stuck In NYC
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Several Dallas high school students are stuck in New York City, due to Hurricane Sandy.
The 13 students, two coaches and advisor, from Bishop Lynch High School, traveled to Brooklyn to compete in an international mock trial tournament.
They were supposed to return to Dallas Monday night, but instead are stuck in the city that never sleeps to ride out the storm.
CBS 11's Tracy Kornet spoke via Skype to four of the 13 students and their chaperones.
Blake Carter described the storm conditions at midday, "Just mostly high winds and a lot of rain. Not that bad. Just like any other mild storm in Dallas."
With most stores closed, the students are doing homework online, stocking up on groceries, and feeling slightly bummed about what they're missing back home.
"Our volleyball team is in the playoffs. I was really hoping to go for that," says Tori Holder.
Bishop Lynch students are accustomed to competing in this tournament.
Sabrina Degenova says, " We've been part of the mock tourney since it's begun and this is our sixth year for the tournament--so we've been here past six years competing."
But this is the first time they've encountered a weather emergency. Wednesday is the earliest they'll likely get out.
