Dallas Confirms Fifth Human Case Of West Nile Virus
DUNCANVILLE (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas County Health and Human Services say another person has tested positive for West Nile virus. It's the fifth case in Dallas County this year.
The victim, who lives in the 75137 zip code, was hospitalized with a case of the neuroinvasive form of West Nile Virus. The health department hasn't released the person's name.
Dallas County will conduct ground spraying Thursday and Friday nights in that zip code, as well as areas where mosquitoes testing positive for West Nile virus were trapped.
"Dallas County wants to alert the public that the mosquitoes that carry West Nile virus are here and they're active," said Zachary Thompson, DCHHS director. "Our mosquito surveillance program and the county and municipal abatement teams are taking the appropriate actions to ensure the safety of our residents. However, it is important that residents do their part by taking the necessary precautions to avoid exposure to the virus."
Health officials are still urging residents to adhere to the five D's when it comes to controlling the presence of mosquitoes.
