Dallas Firefighter's Widow Demands Answers

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - The widow of Dallas firefighter Stan Wilson has issued a 'demand' letter to Dallas Fire-Rescue Chief Louie Bright, asking for the city's findings on her husband's death.

"We've been very patient, but it's been 14 months," Jenny Wilson told the CBS 11 News I-Team.

The I-Team has been investigating Wilson's death, and the orders that sent him and fellow firefighters back into a raging building fire, for several months.

Sources, some of whom were fighting the blaze along with Wilson, have told the I-Team that the orders from a deputy chief on the scene should have never been made. The building had already been searched for victims, the fire was too intense, and the structure was crumbling when Wilson went back into the fire, those sources told the I-Team.

The veteran firefighter died when the building collapsed.

Below is the letter that Jenny Wilson's attorney, Barry Hasten, sent to Bright.

Chief Bright:

I represent the family of Stan Wilson. At this time, my representation is for the sole purpose of assisting them in obtaining a copy of the DFRD line of duty death report for Stan. Frankly, I believe the family has been more than patient, and it has been 14 months since Stan's tragic death. I have been involved in handling fires and overseeing fire investigations as an attorney for over 20 years. Due to the fact that most, if not all, witnesses are under your control, it's difficult to understand why the investigation has taken this long. On behalf of a family that has been waiting patiently for answers, I would ask you to either release the report or provide a date certain when you expect to complete the report.
