Dallas Firefighters Rescue Deeply Hurt Dog At Site Of Arson

DALLAS (CBSDFW) - A dog found in a Dallas home with her throat cut has a new lease on life, thanks to Dallas firefighters at Fire Station 46.
Around midnight Wednesday, firefighters responded to a house fire on Clearwood Street. Once the fire was out the crew was doing a secondary sweep of the house, that's when the white and tan pitbull made her first appearance.
"She actually walked in the house and came up to me," says firefighter Joseph Nguyen. "I brought her out to the backyard and we realized her neck was cut. It was a fresh cut. And it was pretty deep."
That house fire has since been confirmed as an act of arson. Nguyen suspected that at the time, and could tell the dog had been deliberately hurt.
"We were pretty upset about the fact that someone would do this to an innocent animal," he says.
Firefighters took her back to the station and made her comfortable while calling DFW Rescue Me. They named the pooch 'Khaleesi' after a character on the TV show Game of Thrones.
"It's really appropriate, because Khaleesi actually rises from a giant fire in the show," says Nguyen.
Khaleesi was transported to Spring Ridge Animal Hospital in Denton for surgery. She will eventually recover and will stay at Denton emergency animal hospital until she's ready to be adopted.
"It's still a long road ahead, and she won't be ready for awhile," says Nguyen. "But to me pitbulls are one of the best breeds. Based on the support we've seen online, we're not worried about her getting adopted."
A puppy was also found at the same house, and is currently with DFW Rescue Me.
No arrests have been made yet for committing the arson.
