Dallas Family Appeals To Hit-And-Run Driver After Woman Is Killed

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A Dallas family is desperate for answers after their mother was killed by a hit and run driver. Dallas police say the suspect hit 54-year old Sue Burks as she crossed the 7600 block of Great Trinity Forest Parkway. Investigators say the unknown driver never stopped.

"Everybody loved her. You were always going to get a smile from her, you're always going to get a hugs, a kiss - you're going to get them from her," Shalunda Burks said.

Shalunda Burks can't help but smile when she remembers her mother's warm and loving spirit. But the reality of her mother's loss is a pain she cannot hide.

"They took a wonderful lady," she said. "They took a wonderful mama."

Dallas poilce say Sue Burks died Saturday night as she crossed Great Trinity Forest Parkway. She was walking home when police say a driver hit her and never stopped. Burks died at the scene.

"Whoever hit my mama could've at least stop for her and render aid or something," Burks said. "But they didn't do anything, they just kept going and I think that's so selfish of them because they don't know who they took."

Dallas police continue to talk to witnesses and gather information in this case, but they still don't know what type of vehicle was involved in this deadly hit and run.

Now, all Shalunda has are her memories and pictures and the hope that justice will come.

"Just come forward, it won't bring my mom back, but it would give us some type of closure so we can move forward because this has been devastating," she said.

Officers believe the car in question was either a Ford Crown Victoria or a Mercury Grand Marquis. Anyone with information is asked to call Dallas Police.
