Dallas Cowboys To Draft & Avoid In Fantasy Football
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- The Dallas Cowboys feature a number of offensive weapons heading into the 2014 NFL season. The defense -- not so much.
There are some Cowboys to draft, and some to avoid in your Fantasy Football Draft. We give you our advice here.
Draft: Tony Romo
Value. That's what Romo represents after undergoing back surgery for a herniated disk last December.
Romo may be an injury risk, but he's also been one of the most consistent fantasy quarterbacks, finishing as a top-10 QB in each of the last three seasons.
With DeMarco Murray, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, Terrance Williams, and a potentially dominant offensive line, the weapons are there to do it again.
Be patient and wait on No. 9. Let someone else take a QB in the first round.
Avoid: DeMarco Murray
If you're considering drafting Murray near the top of the first round, don't do it.
On pure potential, he belongs there. But Murray has appeared in 13, 10, and 14 games in his NFL career. Going back to his days at Oklahoma, Murray suffered knee, kneecap, and hamstring injuries that forced him to miss time.
He's a big risk -- especially in the first round. Consider him a value pick towards the end of the second round or later.
Draft: Dez Bryant, Terrance Williams
Dez Bryant is an absolute beast, something he's proven this preseason with dominant performances.
He's averaged 92.5 receptions, 1307 yards, and 12.5 TDs over the past two seasons. He's also playing for an extension with Dallas, which can only motivate the emotional receiver.
Second-year receiver Terrance Williams was solid in his rookie season. Receivers often take a big step in year two. Playing opposite Dez doesn't hurt.
Avoid: Cole Beasley
Each preseason, the shifty Beasley is projected to have an increased role with the Cowboys. It never happens.
He's not Wes Welker, but he is a nice slot player that may reel in 40+ balls. The yardage and TDs simply won't be there to justify a selection.
Draft: Dan Bailey
Be smart about drafting a kicker -- and only draft one. The scoring gap between the league's best and 10th best kickers isn't much.
But Bailey is quietly becoming one of the league's best. He missed just two field goals last season, converting on his final 21 (including four from 50+). He's also a perfect 3-for-3 from 50+ this preseason.
If you have faith in the Dallas offense, draft Bailey. If you don't, he still might be a good selection.
Avoid: Dallas Defense
Is an explanation really necessary?
The unit was historically bad in 2013. And after losing its leader in Sean Lee -- and DeMarcus Ware -- this offseason, there's little reason to expect better.
With non-divisional games against New Orleans, Seattle, and Indianapolis, things could get ugly. And the Chip Kelly-led Philadelphia offense will make two appearances against the Dallas D.
If you're absolutely convinced that Dallas will improve, there's no reason to draft them. No one else will.
