Josh Brent's Bond Hearing Postponed
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent's bond hearing, originally scheduled for June 21, has been delayed by a month. Brent will now appear before a judge on July 19, when prosecutors will argue that his bond should be revoked.
Brent failed a drug test issued in late May, nearly six months after he was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter as the driver in a one-car crash that killed his teammate, Jerry Brown.
Under the conditions of his $100,000 bond, which was reduced from $500,000, Brent was ordered to stay away from alcohol and drugs as well as wear an alcohol-monitoring device.
The results of the May 24 drug test showed no signs of alcohol, but revealed Brent had a level of marijuana in his system consistent with first hand use of the drug.
Prosecutors have previously complained Brent was not meeting the conditions of his bond, arguing that his alcohol monitor had shown irregular readings on more than one occasion.
On December 8, 2012, Brent was "intoxicated, speeding over the limit and failed to drive in a single lane," according to accident investigators when he flipped his 2007 Mercedes Benz with teammate Jerry Brown inside. Brown died at the scene. The arrest report showed Brent's blood-alcohol level 0.189 -- more than twice the legal limit.
