Dallas Cowboys Eliminate Printable Tickets For Upcoming Season

DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - The Dallas Cowboys are changing the way season ticket holders share or sell their tickets by doing away with tickets printed with a PDF file.
The Executive Vice President of Business Operations, Chad Estis, says the changes are being made for convenience and due to fraud. Estis estimates there are about five suspected cases of fraud at every home game. Estis says anyone is able to make multiple copies and the first person to have the paper attachment scanned gets into the stadium.
"People walking up to the stadiums with and eight-by-ten piece of paper, that is gone," says Estis.
Jessicka Matias of Arlington says they're happy the team is moving away from PDF printed tickets because she experienced the problem first-hand, at a Texas Rangers Baseball game. Matias says she and a number of family members purchased $35 tickets from a friend. They all got into the stadium, but they learned that another fan was assigned to her seat.
"Went to my seat, somebody was in mine, and they had an actual ticket. I had paper," she says.
Matias husband, Shawn, says he has worried about purchasing tickets from a PDF file. "The riskiness of getting fraudulent tickets has stopped me from purchasing tickets, especially when they sell them for so cheap," says Shawn Matias. "It's like you're selling it for so cheap, it's probably fake."
Estis says convenience is the main reason the team has changed the way season ticket holders transfer tickets to a friend or a buyer.
The team has sent an email with a video attached to all season ticket holders briefly explaining how the new system will work.
"If that season ticket holder would like to transfer those tickets to a friend or a co-worker, they would send that individual an email and then they would build an account and then they would accept the tickets" through a mobile device, says Estis. "If you want to use mobile ticketing when you get to the stadium, you have to have it on your smart phone or have a hard ticket."
Estis says the new process is not yet attached to an app, but eventually will be part of the AT&T Stadium app.
