Josh Brent Tests Positive For Marijuana Use
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Nearly six months after Dallas Cowboys member Josh Brent was arrested for Intoxication Manslaughter as the driver in a one-car crash that killed his teammate, the football player has tested positive for marijuana.
Based on the positive test results, prosecutors say Brent is a danger to society and have filed court documents to revoke his $100,000 bond. Depending on a judge's ruling, it could mean the defensive lineman would be held in jail as he awaits trial on the Intoxication Manslaughter charge.
At his most recent bond hearing, Brent provided a urine sample, which was tested for alcohol and drug use. The results of the test, taken on May 24, showed no alcohol in his system, but revealed that Brent used marijuana within 30 days of the test. As a condition of his bond, Brent was told repeatedly he could not drink alcohol or use any drugs.
This is not the first time prosecutors have complained that Brent was not meeting the conditions of his bond. They stated his alcohol monitor, which tests for alcohol use every 30 minutes of every day, had shown irregular readings on several different occasions. Prosecutors also claimed in court documents that Brent had failed to show up at bond supervision appointments. A judge previously warned Brent in March about violating the terms of his bond.
On December 8, 2012, Brent was "intoxicated, speeding over the limit and failed to drive in a single lane," according to accident investigators when he flipped his 2007 Mercedes Benz with teammate Jerry Brown inside. Brown died at the scene. The arrest report showed Brent's blood-alcohol level 0.189 -- more than twice the legal limit.
