Dallas County Video Shows Last Moments Of Joseph Hutcheson's Life
DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - Joseph Hutcheson's wife and mother were visibly upset leaving from a meeting with Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez.
The Sheriff showed them a 40-minute long security video of Hutcheson's last moments alive. "Our condolences go out to the family of Joseph Hutcheson."
Relatives demanded the video be released. It shows Hutcheson moving erratically as he entered the sheriff's department lobby. People scattered. Hutcheson's family says he was yelling for help.
Sheriffs department personnel subdued and handcuffed him. After appearing to resist a little, the 48 year old went into cardiac arrest.
The sheriff says, "In an effort to promote continued communication, we are releasing video of the incident that occurred." This happened just before 10:30 a.m. on August 1.

The sheriff says Hutcheson sought medical care earlier in the day. "At 4:17 a.m., he checked into Parkland Hospital. At 9:48 a.m., he leaves Parkland Hospital against medical advice."
After showing the video, the sheriff refused to answer reporters' questions about what she saw and her officers' actions. "We want to honor the family by doing a correct investigation." The sheriff says the investigation remains ongoing.
There were as many as 50 people in the lobby during the incident. Valdez says if members of the public were there at the time, and haven't already spoken with investigators, she wants them to contact the Dallas County Sheriff's Department Criminal Investigations Section at 214-653-3489 or 214-653-3490.
Hutcheson family attorney, Scott Palmer, says there are still more questions than answers at this point. He says if there's evidence that shows the sheriffs department personnel played a part in causing, rather than trying to prevent Hutcheson's death, they will file a civil lawsuit.
