Dallas County Reports 17th West Nile Death

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas County Health and Human Services confirms another death related to the West Nile Virus. This marks the seventeenth virus related death in Dallas County.

The patient, who lived in zip code 75043, died after being diagnosed with West Nile Neuroinvasive Disease. The 75043 zip code is in the Garland area. No additional information was released about the patient.

To date, Dallas County has reported 374 human cases of the West Nile Virus, the most of any county in the metroplex. Tarrant County has reported 261 human cases and 7 deaths. Denton County has reported 169 cases and 2 deaths. Complications from the virus have killed four people in Collin County, where 73 human cases have been reported.

Health officials continue to encourage people to practice the four Ds to limit their exposure to mosquitoes and the West Nile Virus. They include:

• Using insect repellents that contain DEET
• Draining any standing water
• Dressing in long, loose and light-colored clothing and
• Using repellent and wearing protective clothing from from Dusk to Dawn.
