Dallas Co. Reports 14th, 15th Human WNV Cases

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Dallas County Health and Human Services is reporting the county's 14th and 15th human cases of West Nile virus this season.
One resident lives in the 75206 ZIP code, which includes the Knox-Henderson area, Lower Greenville and M Streets neighborhoods; the other lives in the 75243 ZIP code, which is farther north, between Royal Lane and Spring Valley Road.
Both people were diagnosed with West Nile fever, which can include symptoms like headaches and muscle aches.
Last week, an Irving resident from the 75061 ZIP code died from West Nile, becoming the second county resident to die from the disease this season.
The best way to avoid exposure to West Nile Virus is to avoid mosquito bites.
Residents should use the 4Ds to reduce their risk:
♦ DEET All Day, Every Day: Whenever you're outside, use insect repellents that contain DEET or other EPA approved repellents and follow instructions.
♦Dress: Wear long, loose, and light-colored clothing outside.
♦Drain: Drain or treat all standing water in and around your home or workplace.
♦Dusk & Dawn: Limit outdoor activities during dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
