Dallas Clears Another Hurdle In Bid To Host 2016 RNC
DALLAS, Texas (1080 KRLD) - The City of Dallas has cleared another hurdle in its bid to host the 2016 Republican National Convention.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and other top local officials hosted an eight-member team Thursday on a technical site visit.
The visitors saw American Airlines Center – which would host the main convention activities – in addition to Arlington's AT&T Stadium, which could be used for opening or closing events in 2016.
Local officials also gave updated presentations on hotels, transportation and the financial aspects of the Dallas bid.
The Republican Party's site selection committee will meet next month in Memphis to select a handful of finalist cities, which will then receive visits by the full committee.
The GOP is expected to pick a city to host the 2016 convention by this August.
KRLD's Chris Sommer spoke with Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau President Phillip Jones about this week's technical site visit.
