Dallas Churches Miles Apart On Same-Sex Decision

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - CBS11 went to two very different Sunday church services on the first Sunday since the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling legalizing same-sex marriage.
Crowds filled the First Baptist Church in Dallas for an electrifying service. It started off with a stern anti-same-sex marriage message led by State Representative Louie Gohmert.
"Father... you told us to teach our children. we've dropped the ball," said Gohmert. "Too many don't know what our founding came from."
The applause that followed from the congregation led right into Pastor Robert Jeffress' opening remarks and criticism of the Supreme Court decision.
"The greatest most historic landmark blunder in the history of the United States Supreme Court," said Jeffress.
Across town the tone was very different at the Cathedral of Hope. The gay-friendly church filled its pews with same-sex marriage supporters who came to hear reassuring words from their pastor.
"It is the echoes of the heavens that resound amongst us this morning reminding us that not only are we loved but we are love, and that if love is from god we express that love to one another," said Pastor Neil G. Cazares-Thomas.
Their position on the issues polar opposites. The only thing they shared in common was an overly passionate response to an historic social move in our country's history.
"Being Christ-like pulls us always to be in it together to work through to find ways in which we can make this world a more equal and fair place," said Cazares-Thomas during his service.
"Regardless of what happened Friday the First Baptist Church of Dallas is not going to be intimidated and we are not going to be silenced," said Jeffress during his service.
