DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A new boutique in Dallas is spending the day helping Santa with a little gift giving. Workers at the store are busy trying to make Christmas brighter for hundreds of North Texas kids.

It's kind of like Santa's workshop inside West Coast Vibes, in University Park.

Lori Landes, the owner of West Coast, opened the boutique less than two months ago and is already finding ways to give back to the community.

Today Landes and employees at her store are packing goody bags filled with new backpacks, clothes and other items for children at the Wilkinson Center.

Landes will be taking the gift bags to the Wilkinson Center toy distribution event on December 17. While children have fun at a special Christmas party their parents will be in a separate area "shopping" from the items donated. The event means parents will be able to have gifts for their children on Christmas Day.

The Wilkinson Center works to help kids and families in East Dallas who are living in poverty. Executive director Anne Reeder said, "Oh my gosh. I just can't tell you how excited they are. Because it (Christmas gifts) just wouldn't happen for a lot of these families. People think of low-income people as maybe not employed, but in most of these families both parents are working two or three jobs just to make ends meet."

The assembly of gift packing will be happening all day.

Landes said she's participating in the event so that she could provide a Merry Christmas for more than her family this year.
