Dallas-Based Alarm Company Providing Free Alarms For Those In Need
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – Robbie Fisher lives in a quiet, gated community in north Dallas County. She's never had any problems in her neighborhood and, yet, she's having a special security alarm system installed in her home, for free.
"It means a lot to me," Fisher said.
Smith Monitoring, an alarm company based in Dallas, recently launched a program called SmithCares.
The program provides free alarms to victims of child abuse, domestic violence, repeated crimes or, in Fisher's case, families with special medical situations.
Robbie's sister-in-law Diann is a Vietnam Veteran. While serving her country, she had the difficult task of working in body retrieval.
Diann recently suffered several strokes. Robbie moved her sister-in-law in with her to care for her. The strokes affected Diann's mobility and memory, which have led to some close calls when she tried to wander out of the house.
"Sometimes at night she gets confused and doesn't know where she is and forgets to call me, so this way I can be alerted," said Fisher.
The new alarm system not only will help deter burglars, but will silently alert Robbie if there is motion in the house or at the medicine cabinet, all of which is aimed to help protect her sister-in-law.
"It's a big relief for me because my sister-in-law isn't that old and I want her to maintain normal life as much as possible," she said.
Dan Stoltzfus, founder of Smith Monitoring, said he hopes to expand the SmithCares program across Texas, and into Georgia and California.
"We feel like we're very blessed and fortunate and we wanted to find a way we could impact the community," Stoltzfus said.
