ARLINGTON (105.3 THE FAN) - The Dallas Cowboys aren't just beating every team that shows up at their doorstep — they're also beating ever negative meme that comes their way.
They did it again Sunday at AT&T Stadium, this fresh meme arriving in the following form:
"Dak Prescott might have problems with Tony Romo, as the No. 2 QB, looking over his shoulder."
In reality, the Cowboys — 27-17 winners over a Baltimore team that boasts the NFL's best defense — is only looking forward to just how special this record-setting team might be.
"The best thing that (Prescott) has done, and our team has done, is maintain our focus," coach Jason Garrett said. "There are distractions in life."
Oh my yes.
The elevation of a now-healthy Romo to the backup job, coming on the heels of the veteran's emotional Tuesday step-aside address, could've been a "distraction." But instead, it's "life" — life as usual for arguably the top team in the NFL.
Prescott overcame a sluggish start and completed 27 of 36 passes for 301 yards with three touchdowns and a quarterback rating of 127.2. Combine that with two TD catches from Dez Bryant (who on Saturday buried his father) and 127 total yards from another rookie, MVP candidate Ezekiel Elliott, and this offense is now a machine.
These Cowboys now have the longest single-season winning streak in franchise history at nine games. The 1977 team opened the season 8-0 and went to the Super Bowl.
"We're not going to spend a lot of time on that," Garrett said. "We're going to process this and move forward. It's hard to win in the National Football League."
And it will be "hard" on Thursday when the Redskins show up in Arlington for a Thanksgiving Day game... except that Dallas will be at home and Washington — which plays on Sunday night — will have to travel for the shortest possible NFL week.
"It's a different kind of week," Garrett said. "It's not new to us."
There will also be different memes birthed this week; that's part of being "America's Team." But part of being 9-1 is beating the opponents... and beating the memes, too.
