Cruz Apologizes, Heading To Surprise For Remainder Of Season
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Nelson Cruz held a brief press conference Friday at Rangers Ballpark to apologize to fans, the Rangers organization and Major League Baseball regarding his role in the recent PED scandal.
Cruz said "it's been a really tough past few weeks" since he was suspended by MLB for 50 games in connection with the Biogenesis investigation.
He also said he hopes the Rangers go to the playoffs and he hopes that he can help out if they do. Cruz will be eligible to return for the first game of the playoffs — if the Rangers qualify. He is set to be a free agent at the end of the season.
Starting in September, Cruz is heading to Surprise, Arizona to work out at the Rangers spring training facility and with the Arizona Instructional League team.
Cruz, Alex Rodriguez, and Ryan Braun — who already accepted and is serving a 65-game ban — are among a group of as many as 20 players alleged to have been clients of Biogenesis and currently under suspension.
