Criminal Justice Careers Expanding With The Booming Population In Dallas

The Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex is growing; as companies look for affordable options for office/warehouse space, tax breaks and an agreeable climate, DFW is topping the list of places companies choose to relocate.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth in the Southwest is booming. With increased population growth that is not limited to urban areas, there is an ever-growing need for essential services i.e., police and firefighters and healthcare workers. But it isn't just general areas that need people to join the workforce; specialty workers are also needed.

Criminal justice and security are rapidly growing fields; their use of technology is vital to solving crimes and those with advanced education are most likely to get the jobs.

Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice, Johnny Nahn at Texas Christian University, has seen the growth with students returning to school in pursuit of higher education in order to make the next step in their career.

The Dallas Police Department is looking to hire 250 more officers and in order to get past the rank of sergeant, one must have a master's degree. Those who desire a career as a federal agent would also benefit from an advanced degree.

Nahn, who has a doctorate in criminology, said, "Criminal justice is one of the fastest growing majors in the country and pursuing an online education is a viable way to earn a degree."
