Criminal Charges Recommended For Driver In Deadly Irving Bus Crash
IRVING (CBSDFW.COM) -- Nearly three months after a deadly charter bus crash in Irving, the Texas Department of Public Safety is recommending to a grand jury that the bus driver be charged with criminally negligent homicide.
On Friday, DPS sent the Dallas County District Attorney's Office the recommendation, requesting a review by a grand jury.
Three seniors en route to an Oklahoma casino were killed when the charter bus full of seniors crashed on President George Bush Turnpike in Irving. The driver of the bus, 65-year-old Lloyd Rieve, lost control of the vehicle, which struck barriers on both sides of the road before flipping on its side.
More than 40 people were injured. Rieve was transported from the scene in serious condition.
"From the date of the crash until this point, the investigators have taken a look at every piece of information that they could," said DPS spokesman Lonny Haschel to KRLD. "Everything from physical evidence on the roadway, the bus itself, the inspection of the bus, the records from the bus company, the driver records, the crash reconstruction, as well as witness statements."

The CBS 11 I-Team obtained court records showing that Rieve was involved in a number of previous bus incidents, including hitting and killing a man in 1998. Driving records show Rieve was cited for speeding two months later. He was cited again in 2002.
The case has been turned over to the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.
