Crews Search For Drowning Victim At Lake Lewisville
LEWISVILLE LAKE (CBSDFW.COM) - Investigators identified a man who fell from a capsized boat and never surfaced as Blake Taylor Long, 31, of Little Elm.
Crews from Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Denton County Sheriff's Department and the Lewisville Fire Department spent hours searching the lake Friday night after Long disappeared and much of the day Saturday.
Long and a woman were on a boat when it began to take on water, capsized and turned upside down, according to Capt. Cliff Swafford, a game warden with Texas Parks and Wildlife.
Long and the woman got on top of the upside down boat and called 911. The 911 operator told them to put on life jackets.
The woman was able to put on a life jacket, but for unknown reasons Long was unable to put a life jacket on, Swafford said. Long slid off the boat and never surfaced.
Investigators believe alcohol may have been a factor.
"We still have to get a location pinpointed. We use what we call side scan sonar," Swafford said.
Investigators said the search became even more difficult with the number of boaters that were on the lake. "This morning when we were out here and the water was calm, we had no wake and it made it a lot easier to search," said Stormy McCustion, a game warden with Texas Parks and Wildlife.
Along with the search, authorities still had to patrol the water, checking boats for violations and making sure that drivers aren't drinking. "We have to balance the recovery effort with the public safety, so we'll do both," Swafford said.
Search crews will be back out on the lake Sunday morning.
