Crews Extinguish Dallas Condo Fire

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Emergency crews in Dallas battled a three-alarm condo fire late Wednesday night. Heavy flames were showing when firefighters arrived at the Richland Trace Condominiums, located in the 9800 block of Walnut Street shortly after 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Smoke was pouring out of the three-story building, and crews initially made an offensive attack against the flames. But the fire spread and workers shifted to a defensive plan when the structure's integrity appeared to be compromised. A floor partially collapsed a short time later.

But all residents and firefighters were out of the building when the floor gave way, and there were no reports of injuries.

The fire was finally extinguished just before 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning. Investigators are now trying to determine what started the blaze.

A total of 24 condo units were impacted by the incident, sustaining either fire, smoke or water damage.  Most of the damage was done after the fire spread into the attic.  Crews are on the scene trying to determine if the entire building will need to be torn down.

At least 25 residents have been displaced, and the American Red Cross is expected to assist anybody who needs help.
