Crews Battle Fire At Grand Prairie Apartment Complex
GRAND PRAIRIE (CBSDFW.COM) - Firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze at an apartment complex in Grand Prairie. The flames were reported just after 7:30 a.m. Monday morning at the Castillion Apartments, located in the 500 block of Avenue J, just east of Highway 360.
CBS 11 News was at the scene as emergency crews continued to battle the fire. The flames could be seen shooting out from the roof of the apartment building, and the thick, black smoke could be seen from miles away. Officials on the scene said that four units were fully involved.
The good news is that everyone appears to have made it out of the apartment building safely, according to authorities. One young woman with asthma was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. She is expected to be okay. A pair of 5-month-old twins were also placed into an ambulance and checked out, but they too appear to be just fine.
Investigators are still trying to determine how the fire started. According to some witnesses on the scene, a downstairs resident still had a Christmas tree in her apartment unit. Neighbors suspect that the fire began near that dried out tree.
