Driver's Fatigue Caused Fatal Family Crash
An Oklahoma crash that killed ten people, including a Frisco family, was likely caused by an overly-tired big rig driver named Donald Creed, who is now serving ten years on probation for negligent homicide. An NTSB hearing finds that Creed was operating on very little sleep the day his 18-wheeler smashed into a line of traffic stopped for a previous accident on I-44 near Miami, Oklahoma about 90 miles from Tulsa. Among the ten who died were a Frisco couple, their seven-year-old son, and the boy's grandmother. The NTSB report released yesterday shows that Creed had been behind the wheel for ten hours at the time of the crash. His shift had begun at 3 a.m. following no more than five hours of sleep. Investigators found no evidence that Creed had hit the brakes or taken any evasive action before he plowed into the stopped traffic at about 70 miles-per-hour.
